Use Your Old Phone As IP CCTV Camera | DIY

In the new era of mobile phone devices old phones become useless because of the various reasons like slow performance along with old operating system version. So to utilise the use of old phone I have prepared this tutorial. However there are various other uses also which I will describe in my upcoming articles. The best thing about this tutorial is that we can use this CCTV from any device like your mobile phone, computer, or laptop. All the videos will be uploaded to the Dropbox. Cloud storage is used because if we store videos in our old phone itself, there are chances that if someone stole our phone we will not be able to identify thief because videos stored in internal memory are also gone with the theft mobile phone. That's why I preferred online storage to watch the videos from anywhere.
Let's begin the process.
Prerequisites:
1. Your old Android based mobile phone.
2.An app called IP Webcam, which you have to download from playstore. Here is the link to download it.
Steps Involved:
1. First of all, open the app IP Webcam after downloading it from the playstore.
2. Make sure to connect your phone to your wifi connection all the time.
3. After opening the app tap on plugins option
and then click Install Manage Scripts, then scroll down to the bottom and click uploader and download it.
4. Go back and turn on the uploader and click Install Dropbox Uploader and install it from Google Playstore.
5. Then tap select uploader and choose Dropbox Uploader and then login to Dropbox and Authorize the app to store videos and finally click ok.
6. Open the homepage of the app IP Webcam, scroll down and select Start Server.
You will see that the camera is started and an IP address is showing in the bottom, note it down. Now you can lock the phone, camera will still work in the background.
7. Now mount the phone anywhere you want in your home.
8. To access it's recordings, open any browser connected to same wifi network in any device like mobile phone, computer or laptop.
9. Enter the IP address which we have noted earlier in the address field and now you will be able to access your IP CCTV camera from there.
10. Don't forget to turn on the recording from the same screen.
Congratulations, you have successfully made your own IP CCTV camera without wasting your hard earned money. The same tutorial can also be followed on my YouTube channel:
